Welcome to Year 2 Rabbits! Year 2 is an exciting and memorable year for the children. It is their final year in KS1 before they move up to KS2. This year they will continue to develop social skills and important life skills. I have been teaching in Year 2 for four years this year and I love teaching this year group. I love seeing the children grow as they continue to develop their own personallities.

Our topic in the Spring Term is 'To Infinity and Beyond'.  We will be focussing largely on History, particulary our on space travel and explorers from the past such as Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus!

Please follow our school twitter page @AbingdonPrimary to see updates of exciting things going on in our class! This is where you will find photographs and vidoes of the lovely things your children are doing at school!

Creative Curriculum

Autumn Term

Down in the Deep, Dark Woods

Pupils will look at the local area of Reddish, making maps and plotting route using keys and symbols.  They will look at how the area has changed over time and identify significant individuals, places and historical events within the local area including LS Lowry.  They will also study what life was like for their grandparents and look at toys from the past.

Spring Term

To Infinity and Beyond

This term, the children will develop their awareness of the past through comparing significant individuals such as Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus.  They will look at events beyond living memory such as man landing on the moon and how aviation and space travel has developed.

Summer Term

A taste of India

In this term, children will make comparisons between a non-European country (India) and the UK.  Children will also have a focus on human and physical geography, locational knowledge of the coutnry of India and its history, landmarks and culture.  Children will then compare India with their local area through its physical and human features.

Important Notes for parents

The children will have PE twice a week, once with the class teacher and once with our Junior Jam PE teacher. The children will have PE on Mondays and Wednesdays. The children should come to school wearing their PE kit and they will stay in their kit all day. PE kit must be a white t-shirt, black shorts and pumps/trainers.

In Year 2, we have a recognition board with all of the children's photos.  Each child must work hard to achieve our weekly class target in order to recieve a treat at the end of the week.  We also have a Class Dojo weekly target.  If we achieve the weekly amount of points needed, then we can have class treat at the end of the week! .

Contact/Class Dojo

At Abingdon we use Class Dojo which is embedded within every year group. We use Class Dojo to engage parents by sharing photos and vidoes of exciting moments in the classroom. It is also an effective way for parents and teachers to communicate.
