Important Messages
PE

This term we will be having PE on a Thursday and a Friday. Please can the children come to school in their kit in on those days. PE kit is white t-shirt and black shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms.
Creative Curriculum
At Abingdon we follow a creative curriculum. This is split into 2 cycles. Cycle A and Cycle B. Due to 3/4 Owls being a mixed age class, coverage of the entire year 3 and 4 curriculum is met over a 2 year period through completion of the 2 cycles.
Below is an overview of the coverage in Cycle A

Autumn Topic
EUREKA
A focus on Ancient Greeks through inventions and ideas. A study of how the Ancient Greeks lived and what civilisation was like then. Links with the Olympics and also Ancient Greek artwork and pottery and the stories of the Greek Gods.
Spring Topic
GLOBETROTTERS
A comparison between a European Country (Spain) and our local area (Stockport). We study the city of Barcelona in depth in this topic. It also involves a study of geographical features as well as culture, food, sport and art looking at and using the work of Picasso and Dali.
Summer Topic
TOMB RAIDERS
A focus on Ancient Egypt and Egyptians, the geographical features of Egypt including a study of rivers and the use of the River Nile. We had a fantastic visit from Mr Egypt who kickstarted our new topic!
Timestables

The children are expected to learn their times tables. We will help them do this in school but they are also expected to practise at home. They can use Times Table Rock Stars at home and in school to help them. Times tables are especially important for those children in Year 4 who will be completing the Multiplication Tables Check after May half term. .
Spellings
In school we will be teaching the children strategies to help them with spellings.
These are the spellings that the children are expected to read and write by the end of Year 4
The children will also be sent home a list of spellings to learn each week. Spelling test is on Monday.
Useful Websites
Here are some useful websites that you can use with your child to support their learning and have fun together!
Modern Foreign Languages

This year we have a new programme to help us learn Spanish called Languagenut. It has lots of fun games and activities to play. So hopefully we'll be fluent by the end of the year!
Rewards
We have many ways to reward the children in Owls:-
- Recognition Board
- Postcards home
- Certificates in assembly
- Collecting pompoms for a class reward such as extra playtime, mindful colouring, free choice, games.
