Year 4 Owls 2020 - 2021
Year 4 Owls
Welcome to Year 4 Owl’s class page!
Mrs Whitehead teaches Owls from Monday to Thursday and Ms Flanders takes over on Friday!
Our teaching assistants are Mrs Wood and Mrs Bertrand. We are all really looking forward to welcoming you back and getting to know you all better.
We have an exciting, fun and engaging year ahead of us and we are looking forward to being apart of your child's learning journey. Please check in regularly to our blog to see some of the things we have been learning about.
Please follow our school twitter page @AbingdonPrimary to see updates of exciting things going on in our class. This is where you will find photos and videos of the lovely things your children are doing at school!
This term we will be having PE on Wednesday. Please can the children bring their kit in on Wednesday morning and take it home again in the afternoon.
We will also be going swimming on Thursday mornings in Grand Central swimming baths. The children need to come to school wearing their swimming trunks/costumes under their uniform. Girls shouldn't be in bikinis and boys should be in swimming trunks or tight shorts. Please tie up long hair. There should be no jewellery worn, so earrings must be taken out. The first swimming session is Thursday 17th September.
Our topic this Autumn Term is Stones 'n' Bones.
In the Spring it will be Mad as a Hatter.
And in the Summer we will be doing Extreme Earth.
The children are expected to learn their timestables. We will help them do this in school but they are also expected to pracise at home. They can use Times Table Rock Stars at home and in school to help them. Timestables are tested on Wednesdays.
In school we will be teaching the children strategies to help them with spellings.
These are the spellings that the children are xpected to read and write by the end of Year 4
The children will also be sent home a list of spellings to learn each week. Spelling test is on Thursday.
Here are some useful websites that you can use with your child to support their learning and have fun together!
Modern Foreign Languages
This year we have a new programme to help us learn Spanish called Languagenut. It has lots of fun games and activities to play. So hopefully we'll be fluent by the end of the year!
We have many ways to reward the children in Owls:-
- Recognition Board
- Secret Student
- Raffle tickets
- Postcards home
- Certificates in assembly
- Collecting cubes for a class reward such as extra playtime, mindful colouring, free choice, games.
If you want to contact me, you can do so via dojo or email
