Year 4 Owls 2022 - 2023
Year 4 Owls
Welcome to Year 4 Owl’s class page!
Mrs Whitehead teaches Owls from Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday. Then, Ms Chong takes over for the rest of the week!
Our teaching assistant is Miss Murphy who is full time in class.
Please follow our school twitter page @AbingdonPrimary to see updates of exciting things going on in our class. This is where you will find photos and videos of the lovely things your children are doing at school!
This term we will be having PE on a Wednesday and swimming is on a Thursday. Please can the children come to school in their kit in on those days. PE kit is white t-shirt and black shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms. For swimming, girls need a one piece swimsuit and boys needs trunks or shorts (the more fitted the better for learning to swim). Long hair must be tied back wtih a bobble or in a swimming cap. For everyone's safety, goggles can only be warn on medical advice (a note from the dr would be required).
At Abingdon we follow a creative curriculum. This is split into 2 cycles. Cycle A and Cycle B. Due to last year's Year 3/4 being a mixed age class, coverage of the entire year 3 and 4 curriculum is met over a 2 year period through completion of the 2 cycles.
Below is an overview of the coverage in Cycle A
Below is an overview of the coverage in Cycle B
Currently we are following Cycle B.
STONES 'N' BONES
A historical study of early civilisations focusing on the stonge age, and the impact they have had. The study also links to rocks, fossils and geographical features.
AS MAD AS A HATTER
A local history study of Stockport and the rise of the hat industry in a small town. Looking at reasons why it succeeded and also why it diminished.
A geographical study into natural disasters - how, why and where they occur and the effect they have on the geography of an area.
The children are expected to learn their times tables. We will help them do this in school but they are also expected to practise at home. They can use Times Table Rock Stars at home and in school to help them. Times tables are especially important for children in Year 4 as they will be completing the Multiplication Tables Check after May half term. .
In school we will be teaching the children strategies to help them with spellings.
These are the spellings that the children are expected to read and write by the end of Year 4
The children will be sent home a list of these spellings to learn each week. Spelling test is on Monday.
Here are some useful websites that you can use with your child to support their learning and have fun together!
Modern Foreign Languages
This year we have a new programme to help us learn Spanish called Languagenut. It has lots of fun games and activities to play. So hopefully we'll be fluent by the end of the year!
We have many ways to reward the children in Owls:-
- Recognition Board
- Postcards home
- Hot chocolate with the Headteacher
- Certificates in assembly
- Earning Dojo points for a class reward such as extra playtime, mindful colouring, free choice, games.
