Welcome to Year 4 Owls' class page!
Welcome to our new Year 4 Owls and their families. We have an exciting term ahead with lots of exciting things going on!
Teachers
Mrs Whitehead teaches Owls on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Then, Mrs Brett takes over on Thursday and Friday!
Teaching Assistants
Our teaching assistant is Miss Murphy who is full time in class.
Important Messages
PE

This term we will be having PE on a Monday and Wednesday. Please can the children come to school in their kit in on those days. PE kit is white t-shirt and black shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms.
Creative Curriculum
At Abingdon we follow a creative curriculum. This is split into 2 cycles. Cycle A and Cycle B. Coverage of the entire year 3 and 4 curriculum is met over a 2 year period through completion of the 2 cycles.

Autumn Topic
Eureka - The Ancient Greeks
This is a historical study of the early civilisation of Ancient Greece which focuses on Life in Ancient Greece and their influence on the western world including the Olympics. Our study also looks at the geography of both Ancient and modern Greece examining the country's location as well as key physical features such as coastline, oceans, mountains and rivers as well as human features including the location of major cities.
Spring Topic
Globetrotters - The Romans
In this study, we will explore the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, look at their incredible inventions, how they traded and the impact the Romans made on British society.
Summer Topic
Tomb Raiders - The Ancient Egyptians
In this study of Ancient Egypt and the Egyptians we will learn about famous pharaohs such as Tutankhamun and Cleopatra as well as exploring life in Ancient Egypt including mummification, their beliefs of the afterlife and Egyptian gods they worshipped.
Timestables

The children are expected to learn their times tables. We will help them do this in school but they are also expected to practise at home. They can use Times Table Rock Stars at home and in school to help them. Times tables are especially important for children in Year 4 as they will be completing the Multiplication Tables Check after May half term. .
Year 3/4 Statutory Spellings
Below is a list of all spellings that all year 3/4 children should know how to read and write during Year 3 and by the end of year 4. Please practice these where possible. All will be sent throughout the year as weekly spelling practice and repeated to store them to memory.
The children will be sent home a list of these spellings to learn each week. The spelling test is on Friday

We have many ways to reward the children in Owls:-
- Stickers
- Recognition Board
- Postcards home
- Hot chocolate with the Headteacher
- Certificates in assembly
- Earning Dojo points for a class reward such as extra playtime, mindful colouring, free choice, games.

Class Dojo

We use Class Dojos to engage parents by sharing photos and videos of exciting moments in the classroom. Please sign up to class dojo if you haven’t yet as it is a really effective way for teachers and parents to communicate.
