Rights Respecting School
We are currently taking part in the Rights Respecting School award. This is new from Summer 2026 and we are currently working towards our Bronze award.
What Are Children's Rights?
Children’s rights are the things that all children need to be safe, happy, healthy, and able to learn. These rights are written in a special agreement called the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. It helps make sure that every child, everywhere in the world, is treated fairly and with respect.
What We Are Doing at Abingdon Primary
At our school, we are learning about our rights in fun and exciting ways:
· - Learning a new 'Article of the Week' every two weeks.
· - Talking about rights in assemblies and lessons.
· - Seeing rights posters and displays around school.
· - Having a School Council and soon a Rights Respecting Team.
· - Watching Newsround to learn about the world.
Why Rights Matter
Knowing about our rights helps us to:
- Be fair and kind to everyone.
- Feel safe and happy at school.
- Be listened to and share our ideas.
- Learn and do our best.
- Make sure everyone feels included.
How Everyone Can Help
We can help make our school a Rights Respecting place by:
· - Using kind words.
· - Listening to others.
· - Telling an adult if you are worried.
· - Looking after our school and each other.
· - Sharing your ideas in class or with School Council.
Our Promise
We promise to respect our own rights and the rights of others every day.
